Our Oxy-Biodegradable Masterbatch is an innovative additive designed to promote the controlled degradation of conventional plastic products. It contains a proprietary blend of pro-degradant additives that initiate an oxidative process when exposed to oxygen, heat, and UV light. This process breaks down the polymer chains into smaller, hydrophilic fragments, which then become digestible by microorganisms present in the environment (biodegradation). This two-stage process helps address plastic waste accumulation by facilitating the breakdown of plastic into environmentally benign residues, making it a responsible choice for numerous short to medium-term applications.

This masterbatch contains a specialized catalyst, typically a salt of manganese or iron, and is also based on mixtures of transition metal salts and metal oxides. This unique composition enables the plastic to degrade and then biodegrade effectively in the open environment. It significantly accelerates the degradation process, causing oxo-biodegradable plastic to break down much more quickly in the presence of oxygen compared to conventional plastics. The degradation converts the plastic material into small-chain organic chemicals such as ketones, alcohols, carboxylic acids, and low molecular mass hydrocarbon waxes. These transformed chemicals are no longer plastic and are readily biodegradable by ubiquitous bacteria found in both terrestrial and marine environments.
